Stewardship

New City Parks (NCP) recognizes the importance of park stewardship – actively caring for and maintaining healthy green spaces for present and future generations – in the sustainability of the parks we revitalize. Our community-driven approach is adaptable to local needs and resources.

Community Outreach:

In each city where NCP works, we establish collaborative networks among local and state officials, community organizations, schools, businesses, city park advocates, and associations that inform the design, planning, and development, of all our projects. This ensures that the parks align with the unique uses and preferences of community members. When revitalization is complete, NCP builds ownership by involving stakeholders as stewards to help reconnect communities to their newly renovated park.

Programming:

NCP empowers local communities to take ownership of their new parks by providing support, resources, funding, and opportunities to individuals and groups within a community. Our partners offer a breadth of programming that attracts people to the parks and provides positive user experiences in a welcoming environment. By programming opportunities for engagement in the park, the community takes part in creating an active and well-used space that becomes safer, more inclusive, and sustainable.

Maintenance:

NCP works with city officials and community stakeholders to develop a practical and comprehensive park management plan that outlines short-term and long-term goals, strategies, and action steps. Regular maintenance schedules make the plans achievable and sustainable. Our collaboration with the Student Conservation Association encourages local conservation-conscious park stewards to promote social responsibility, environmental awareness, and responsible use of the green spaces NCP installs.

I ran a [basketball] clinic in the mornings from 9-12 and it was free to whoever wants to come learn how to play basketball. NCP jumpstarted something that can be generational coming out of Malcolm X Park. Kingdom Classic kept 70 kids safe and active. I am excited about next year and how big this tournament can get for them. I want to keep this going for years to come.
